WESTCOTT VILLAGE HUB

Welcome to the Westcott Village Hub – your vibrant community heart in the picturesque village of Westcott, Dorking! We are a dedicated Community Interest Company (CIC) passionate about fostering connection, promoting sustainability, and supporting local life.

More than just a refill shop and inviting café, we're a hub for sustainable living, home to the Mid Surrey Community Fridges, and a vital space for community initiatives. Come and discover locally roasted Chimney Fire Coffee, delicious homemade cakes, locally made sourdough bread, fresh local produce, reduce your waste, enjoy a friendly chat, or simply connect with your neighbours over one of our Friday evening meals. We're here to grow, share, and thrive together!

@hatandbanjopoet and some other familiar faces will be at the Autumn Open Mic next Tuesday, pop along and show your support. For those who missed it, @hatandbanjopoet was on @surreyhillsradio last week sharing some of his poems and talking about @mole_valley_arts_alive visit the Surrey Hills Radio to listen back if you missed it, he's on at about the 30 minutes make.

There will be a selection of beers and wine available and teas and coffees. Pop along and show your support.

What an incredible transformation it's been! We started four years ago as Jon & Mum Groceries, offering fresh produce and essentials. The top picture shows our humble beginnings – produce-laden shelving units leading out to the village, focusing on providing quality groceries.
Fast forward to today, and thanks to your amazing support, we've blossomed into The Westcott Village Hub! The bottom picture showcases our beautiful cafe space, which now offers a welcoming spot for the community to connect, relax, and enjoy great food and drink, alongside our continued provision of groceries and essentials.
This journey wouldn't have been possible without the continued support of every single customer, volunteer, and friend. Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts, for believing in us and helping us grow into the vibrant hub we are today. Your support means the world!

Would you give someone a lift to a hospital appointment? Put it on the board. Has someone offered to mow a lawn and you need it doing? Then take the card and cash it in.

The Lunches and Hot Drinks that are currently up there were donated by those who pledged on our Crowdfunder or have donated meals previously.

If you want to add something then pop in and add a note, if you need something to eat and have forgotten your wallet then trade a note in.

Hey everyone! 👋 Just wanted to share some exciting news for the summer! At Westcott Village Hub, we'll be feeding any kids for FREE during the summer holidays! 🥳 Pop in Wed-Sat between 11am-1pm. No need to buy anything, no questions asked – just good food for the little ones. We'll try to whip up something different each day, based on what our regular Hub kids usually munch on. Just a heads-up that we can't guarantee to cater for every allergy or picky eater, but we'll do our very best! Spread the word!

After successfully applying for funds from @molevalleylibdem and the Westcott 100 Club, both of which we are truly grateful to for their continued support, we are now able to reduce the price of all our coffees to £2 whilst still using @chimneyfirecoffee and supporting a wonderful local business.

Thanks for your support and we're really happy to be able to pass the saving in costs to the people of Westcott and it's visitors.

Ever wondered about the Community Fridge at the Hub? Is it for you? (Spoiler: YES!) We're here to share some exciting updates and answer your key questions. Let's dive in!

Myth Buster: Is it a Food Bank?

No, it's not a food bank! Our Community Fridge is for EVERYONE. Its main goal is to tackle food waste. The more people who use it, the more perfectly good, fresh food we can rescue from landfill. Think of it as a smart, community-driven way to help the environment and your wallet!

Why should I use it?

* 🌍 Help the Planet: Every item you take is a direct win against food waste.
* 💸 Ease Your Budget: Supplement your weekly shop and make your household budget go further. With rising costs, it's a savvy choice for any family. There's absolutely no stigma, just shared resourcefulness!

When is the Fridge open and restocked?

The Community Fridge is restocked with fresh goodies every Thursday! You can access it during the Hub's opening hours:
* Tuesday: 2:15 PM (Special visit from the Mid Surrey Community Fridges van at St John's Church!)
* Wednesday: 12:00 PM – 4:00 PM
* Thursday: 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM
* Friday: 10:00 AM – 7:00 PM
* Saturday: 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM

Westcott Village Hub, in partnership with Citizens Advice Mole Valley, Mole Valley Councillors and a group of Westcott Village residents are working together to make Westcott an even better place to live! Your feedback will guide us toward an exciting, magical experience of Westcott for all.

Calling amateur photographers, artists and graphic designers of all ages! Westcott Village Hub is running a competition to design a postcard to promote Westcott. The three winning designs will be used on postcards for distribution at the 10th Anniversary Westfest on June 22nd and at other events.

The cards can be designed in any medium – a scenic photograph, painting or watercolour, graphic artwork or a cartoon (not too saucy please!). They should be in standard postcard size 148mm x 105mm (A6) and include the name Westcott. Entries preferably should be submitted by email as pdfs to westcottvillagehub@gmail.com.

Alternatively, hard copies may be put in the competition box at Westcott Village Hub.

The closing date for entries is Sunday 8th June. All entries will be showcased at Westcott Village Hub during Mole Valleys Arts Alive festival in October.

Every Friday 5-7pm at the Village Hub. Eat in or takeaway.

The last Thursday of every month we will be providing lunch for whoever wants it, come along, have something to eat and meet some friends or neighbours. If you would like to make a donation then please do, but it's not obligatory.

A classic, that's much missed from pub menus with the addition of a sausage roll! What's not to like.

INTRODUCING: THE HUB "BUDDHA BOWL"

Our Buddha bowl has one consistent ingredient, a lemon and tahini dressing. All the other items are decided based on a few factors. What's in Season? What's on the shelves? And what's in abundance. It's always available Vegan, if you have any requests or anything you want to see in your bowl then just shout, and if it's available we will put it in. Healthy, tasty and colourful. Wonderful stuff.

INTRODUCING: THE HUB "HAM, EGG & CHIPS"

Our open sandwich called "Ham, Egg and Chips" is made with slowly braised Ham Hock, an Organic Chapel Farm egg, Crispy Smashed Hash Browns and homemade Ketchup.

Pop along and try it out, along with our other new dishes.

It's been a long couple of weeks and the whole team have been hard at work getting the Hub re-open.

Originally the "plan" was to get a new kitchen and then give it a lick of paint another time...but the kitchen took 3 weeks and not 5 days, so all of a sudden our options changed. We sent out a Crowdfunder (link in Bio) to try and keep us going for a few weeks, to build up some funds to start some other projects.

We still have a lot to do, and your support, whether it's telling your friends about us, buying a sandwich or donating is all much appreciated.

This is just the start of a journey.

Sorry to interrupt your scrolling, there's a good chance that the next post is about the Oscars or something to help ease the parental burden or maybe a picture of an amazing looking burger, that may just be my algorithm though. Anyway, please take a moment to read this...

The last few months have been hard work putting together a group of willing directors, we have them, I'll introduce them all soon, we also had to delay some stuff because starting something is just hard. We have had a period of illness and recovery with various team members having viruses or operations, we've got some building works starting this week and various other challenges that no one needs to understand the details, but I assure you they're in hand.

Anyway, enough of that, the exciting stuff is that we've got a new kitchen coming, a new menu, a switch to Mexican Suppers on a Friday and a refreshed fruit/veg and groceries offering in the pipeline. With all the challenges and changes facing us we need some help, everything has an associated cost and in order to get these things started and get them available for you we need some help with funding.

Cafe Sospeso: A caffè sospeso or pending coffee is a cup of coffee paid for in advance as an anonymous act of charity. The tradition began in the working-class cafés of Naples, where someone who had experienced good luck would order a sospeso, paying the price of two coffees but receiving and consuming only one.

At the hub you can pay for someone to have a meal at our monthly lunches or a coffee, you can pay for someone you know or just put it on the board for someone and we will pass it on to someone who will appreciate it.
